Starved Rock, Matthiessen, Illini And Buffalo Rock State Parks Not Part Of May 1st Re-Opening

Some state parks in Illinois are reopening May 1st.  Unfortunately the list doesn’t include the most visited ones in Starved Rock Country.
According to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, the partial re-opening of state land next Friday includes the I&M Canal State Trail.  State properties that will remain closed include: Starved Rock, Matthiessen, Illini and Buffalo Rock State Parks along with the
Hennepin Canal State Trail.  The DNR hasn’t said what went into deciding what parks will be back open versus those that will stay closed.

If you do chose to use the I&M Canal starting next Friday, you’re urged to practice social distancing and wear a face covering.
