Evan Peters Apologizes for Retweeting Video Praising Police for Arresting Protestor

Beware of the retweet button.

Evan Peters issued an apology on Tuesday, claiming he accidentally retweeted a tweet that condoned violence against looters.

“I don’t condone the guy watching the news at all in the video which I have deleted,” he wrote. “I unknowingly retweeted it. I’m deeply upset it got on my newsfeed. I sincerely apologize if anyone was offended. I support black lives matter wholeheartedly.”

The initial tweet Peters, 33, shared was from a user called @RimHammer, who posted a news video of police chasing looters and captioned it, “I can watch these piece of s—t looters get tackled all day!!”

After taking down the retweet, the “X-Men” star posted a photo of a black square on his social media to signify solidarity with the “#BlackOutTuesday” movement.

However, several people were upset by Peters’ retweet, with one person saying, “I honest to God hope u are hacked. Bc how are you going to retweet that video, undo your retweet, and then post this (TWICE)? Say it with me… PERFORMATIVE ACTIVISM.”

Another suggested, “Evan, If you support #BlackLivesMatter wholeheartedly please share resources and information to your followers, the black box does nothing to help us. If you need links to share we have plenty.”

Peters was recently linked to singer Halsey, who has been actively protesting in Los Angeles and even provided medical attention to protestors shot by rubber bullets. The pair appear to have broken up.
