Tornado warning issued for Hillsborough, as rain continues
The chance of rain this weekend in Tampa Bay is near 100 percent Saturday and Sunday, said Eric Oglesby, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
On Saturday, a tornado warning is in effect for south/central Hillsborough County until 12:30 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. The storm initially began near Sun City Center and Wimauma.
He said both days will have widespread showers and isolated thunderstorms. There is a marginal risk of a tornado, but for most of the weekend, winds shouldn’t be too intense.
A flood watch is in effect for Sunday evening. Oglesby said people who live by rivers should be especially watchful, because the heavy rain might drive flooding.
At the beach, there is a high risk of rip currents and a high surf advisory.
