immigration rates to the United States. Each year prior to the beginning on the open registration period, the State Department announces countries that have had over 50,000 immigrants to the US in the last five years and makes nationals of those countries ineligible to participate in the lottery.
For DV-2021, nationals of the following countries were not eligible to participate in the program because they had a higher rate of immigration to the US than the 50,000 annual threshold: Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (mainland-born), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador,
Guatemala, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, and Vietnam.
