Jessica Mulroney's Reality TV Show Is Dropped After Her Response to Accusations of "White Privilege"

Jessica Mulroney is well known for her career as a fashion influencer and contributor on Good Morning America, 

as well as for her relationship with Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex and for being the daughter-in-law of former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney.

But this week, she's in the headlines for an entirely different reason. On Wednesday afternoon, Canadian lifestyle blogger Sasha Exeter shared a nearly 12 minute-long video on Instagram about her experiences with Mulroney.

Exeter says she believes Mulroney "took offense" to a general call to action Exeter made for influencers to use their platforms to promote anti-racism.

"What happened next was a series of very problematic behavior and antics that ultimately resulted in [Mulroney] sending me a threat in writing last Wednesday," said Exeter, who is Black.

"Listen, I am by no means calling Jess a racist but what I will say is this, she is very well aware of her wealth, her perceived power and privilege because of the color of her skin. 

And that, my friends, gave her the momentary confidence to come for my livelihood in writing," she continued, accusing Mulroney of using her "textbook white privilege."

Specifically, Exeter says Mulroney contacted brands and spoke poorly of her.

 Mulroney first publicly apologized by leaving a comment on Exeter's video, which seems to at least allude to her friendship with Meghan. It reads in part:

"As I told you privately, I have lived a very public and personal experience with my closest friend where race was front and centre. It was deeply educational. I learned a lot from that."

But Exeter says that after issuing this apology, Mulroney sent her a DM, which read: "Liable [sic] suit. Good luck."

After Exeter shared the DM with her followers, Mulroney then published another, multi-part apology to Exeter on her own Instagram account, in which she committed to "using every platform and resource available to me to continue the work of anti-racism."

 But Mulroney is already facing consequences for her comments. On Thursday evening, CTV issued a statement regarding their relationship with Mulroney.

 CTV had been airing her wedding reality series I Do Redo.

It reads:

Bell Media and CTV encourages our entire team including our on-air talent to practice respect, inclusivity, and allyship as we pledge to work better and more openly to listen to and amplify Black voices, and not to minimize them.

Because recent conduct by one of our shows [sic] hosts, Jessica Mulroney conflicts with our commitment to diversity and equality, CTV has removed "I DO REDO" from all Bell Media channels and platforms effective immediately.


In a statement released following the CTV news, Mulroney shared that she is going to "step away" from her professional obligations in order to "reflect, learn and focus on my family."

"The events that have transpired over the last few days have made it clear that I have work to do," Mulroney wrote in her Instagram stories.

"I realize more than ever how being a white, privileged woman has put me far ahead of so many, and in particular those in the Black community."

"And while I can't change the past, I can do my part to do better in the future," she said.

"I respect the decision of CTV and have decided to step away from my professional engagements at this time. I'm going to take this time to reflect, learn and focus on my family."

Mulroney also clarified that she is not pursuing legal action against Exeter.
