Watkins Glen International, NY Horse Racing Tracks Allowed to Open Without Fans June 1st.
New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo announced in his daily briefing on Saturday that Watkins Glen International, and horse racing tracks across the state will be allowed to open on June 1st without any fans.
Cuomo says the state will be issuing guidance on how the racetracks can safely reopen in the coming week.
WGI released a statement Saturday saying "Watkins Glen International applauds the Governor's thoughtful leadership during this unpreceded time. Today's announcement is exciting for racing fans, and a positive step forward in the process of live events to New York State."
The statement from the track continued by saying "As the Governor stated, this applies to events beginning June 1. We will continue to work with NASCAR health experts and government officials to take a measured approach to our event season as well as operate in a manner that ensures the safety of our competitors, staff and local community."
As WENY News reported on Friday, WGI has made changes to their 2020 schedule, which includes Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen being pushed back from June 25th - 28th to the weekend of October 1st - 4th 2020, and the SCCA Majors Super Tour, originally scheduled for June 19th - 21st, and the Finger Lakes Wine Festival, scheduled for July 10th - 12th, have now been postponed until 2021.
The NASCAR Cup Series race at WGI, Go Bowling at the Glen, is still set to take place the weekend of August 14th-16th.
