Thunderstorms sweep across Connecticut with gusty winds, heavy rain as tornado watch expires
Heavy rain and gusting winds swept across Connecticut late Friday night, but the most severe weather stayed well to the north in Massachusetts and beyond.
The storm prompted a series of warnings throughout Friday afternoon and evening, including a tornado watch for the northern half of the state, but the worst of the potential weather never materialized in Connecticut.
Wind gusts up to 60 mph and penny-sized hail were expected during the storm, but those stayed largely in New York and Massachusetts, where the storms were more severe.
All of the storm watches and warning expired in Connecticut late Friday night as the storms tapered off into showers through the early hours of Saturday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
