Packers 2020 Schedule: Weeks 6 Through 9 May Define Season
The Green Bay Packers have a very difficult stretch from Weeks 6 through 9 and the outcome may end up defining their 2020 season.
After finishing the regular-season 13-3 overall and winning the NFC North, the Green Bay Packers will have to play a first-place schedule in 2020. Although we’ve known their opponents for quite some time, as of Thursday evening, we now know what their exact schedule looks like.
While they certainly have some difficult matchups, overall there are several positives in how the schedule fell as well.
For one, their road games are spread out fairly well with only one occasion in which they have to play back-to-back weeks away from home. And on top of that, four of their final six games take place at Lambeau Field. Certainly a big advantage for them in late November and December.
However, as is almost always the case, there is a difficult stretch of games for the Green Bay Packers and in a schedule that is already littered with tough opponents, these four games, in particular, could define their season.
While a Week 5 bye week may initially seem like a bad draw, it might actually be taking place at the perfect time because the four-game stretch that follows is brutal.
In Week 6 Green Bay will travel to Tampa Bay to take on Tom Brady and a loaded Buccaneers’ offense. Now, as we saw in 2019 this isn’t the Brady of past years and the Bucs’ defense is still questionable, but especially on the road, this is going to be a tough game to win.
The following week they are on the road once again, this time to face Houston who did lose DeAndre Hopkins this offseason but overall they are still a talented team. Not to mention that they have Deshaun Watson at quarterback, who has the ability to erase just about any mistakes that his team makes.
Then finally in Week 7 the Packers are back home, however, it is against the division rival Vikings who are coming off their bye week. So not only has Green Bay spent the past two weeks on the road, but Minnesota will be well-rested.
And to top it all off, on a short week they head back out to San Francisco for a matchup with the 49ers on Thursday Night Football. After how last season played out, I don’t feel the need to really discuss why this game could end so poorly.
In total, that is four games against four playoff contenders with three of the games taking place on the road. And oh yeah, did I mention that this is all taking place in the span of just 19 days?
Although I don’t think anyone is expecting the Packers to go 4-0 during this stretch or even 3-1, what they can’t do is go on a losing streak. Green Bay already has a difficult start to the season with road games at Minnesota and New Orleans.
Not to mention that over the final weeks they still have to play teams like Indianapolis, Philadelphia, Carolina, and Tennessee. Certainly winnable games, but not givens by any means.
